My purpose as a coach is to help my clients to release their full potential, to recognise and maximise the valuable contribution they make to their organisations through reinforcing their strengths and uncovering hidden ones, as well as identifying limiting self-beliefs and thought patterns, and repeated behaviours that might get in the way of them being their best selves.
My belief is that change comes from self-awareness and developing the agency to make changes for ourselves; and so I work with clients to enhance their self-awareness, their self-belief, and their confidence to be able to truly value themselves and thrive in their roles. My practice is influenced by psychoanalytic, and gestalt approaches to coaching. As such, I work with my clients to raise their awareness as to how their current ways of relating and the challenges they face may be informed by core beliefs they hold about themselves, ways of making sense of their experience and repeated behaviours, that were developed from early experience. Through our work together my clients can recognise these patterns of behaviour and understand and ultimately modify these beliefs and engage in new, more constructive ways of relating.
A vital ingredient in my work with clients is genuine understanding and empathy – drawing on my own experience of fighting my way up through an organisation, battling with my own inner critics and judgments of others, and through these challenges developing a strong sense of who I am and what I bring, which has enabled me to own and value the insight, empathy, warmth and compassion that characterises my relationships, including those with my clients. Through this compassion coupled with genuine curiosity and a strong drive to help others to value themselves, I hope to create a safe space in which my clients can explore, reflect, and be heard without judgement. I use this relational space between us to uncover meaning, interpretations, to offer different lenses with which to view situations in order that my clients can determine their own solutions to the challenges they face.
As a coach I bring a strong background in psychology, as well as experience of leading at senior levels and the challenges that can bring, and in-depth knowledge and experience in leadership development. During my career I have worked with leaders from different businesses, industries, and cultures, which has enabled me to appreciate the world of business from both an operational and cultural perspective, and to combine my psychological and leadership development skills with an understanding of the realities of organisational life.
